A Song for the People (9/11)

Country singer Alan Jackson wrote a song weeks after 9.11 and recorded it for the world. He performs it at his shows and says it "strikes a chord" with his audience every time.
We will never forget.

Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day?

Were you in the yard with your wife and your children or working on some stage in LA

Did you stand there in shock at the site of that black smoke rising against that blue sky

Did you shout out in anger in fear for your neighbor or did you just sit down and cry...


Alan says,


mean, just a lot of things in there people told me that they had actually done those things, so ... I guess I was like everybody else, just feeling those same feelings.

In writing the song he says:
“I don’t know where it came from,” Jackson said. “It’s like one of my favorite things Hank Williams said when he was asked about where he got his songs. He said, ‘I just hold the pen — God writes the song.’ That’s how I feel about this one.”
